Coaching multiple teams there is always the challenge of balancing growth and character of your athletes and parents but coaches have to have set lines that cannot be crossed. Coach C. "Bout that Life" AAU Basketball and Life talk Episode 12

Coach C.Collins and Coach MJ are ready to talk more AAU basketball, life and everything in between.  First the NBA Russell Westbrook may want to leave Houston, James Harden may look to Brooklyn nets, NBA draft is coming up, AD officially opting out of final year of contract and will be a free agent, Danny Green is out of LA including predictions for the next season.  The question of if there will be a High school season that the CIF will allow and they have shifted the rules of AAU to extend to the 2021 class, how will that affect all of AAU basketball next year 2021?  The coaches also discuss with guest Marcus Kirkland should we let people with big issues get in the boxing ring and settle everything? 
This episode the coaches got the chance to sit down with one of the original 4 from the Prelude show to "Bout that Life" podcast. "Basketball Trainers Mentality" was the first show the coaches talked on with our Guest Marcus Kirkland.  As always the coaches are ready to be real and pull know punches    
Guest: Marcus Kirkland(Founder/CEO of Strive Above Others)
Owner of "StriveAboveOthers" - a training company dedicated to the youth of Sacramento.
Prior to starting StriveAboveOthers, he played at Natomas High School before getting an athletic scholarship to Simpson University.
At Natomas High School, I was a 3-time Varsity player and received the MVP award for Sophomore year then All-League his Senior year
He knew he still wanted to play so he began training harder than ever. He worked on his ball handling, put up 100 jump shots a day and was training a minimum of twice a day. He then started to contact coaches and attend college open gyms.
After playing in a Simpson University open gym, he was offered an athletic scholarship to play basketball his Senior year, he made the All-League team
After college, he wanted to dedicate himself to helping kids and giving them opportunities that he didn’t have growing up and "StriveAboveOthers" was created.

" Bout that Life" AAU Basketball and Life talk Episode 11

Coach C.Collins and Coach MJ are back and are ready to talk more AAU basketball, life and everything in between. In this episode the coaches talk about the Lakers and congratulating them on there championship along with what are the next steps for the power house NBA teams. AAU basketball is in  a very strange place but the coaches talk the pros and cons of AAU for the coaches, players and parents.  Also we discuss, the current state of High school basketball, we  tackle parents putting to much input into players development and kids transferring high schools in order to play or do what is best for there family situation. We get to journey back when coach Nate coached one of YBA's own pro level kid Cristiano Felicio, currently playing for the Chicago Bulls and has been a supporter for YBA consistently.  Again Coach Chris and Coach MJ speak there truth and thank you fort those who support and listen.
 
Guest: Nate Stephens(Oakmont High School Head Coach)
Coach Nate Stephens Is a native of Sacramento and the Placer county area. He began his coaching career serving as Head coach at Global Youth Charter High School (DIV 6)In just 2 years as boys’ basketball coach, he led the Global Youth Charter High School Bulldogs to the Sacramento Metropolitan Athletic League title, with a final school record of 22-2 for that year.
In 2009, he was named Coach of the year in the Sacramento Metropolitan Athletic League. Coach
Stephens then moved on to one of the largest AAU programs in Northern California YBA Dawg’s were he served as the top Varsity travel team’s head coach for 7 years. While serving in that position he also served as the Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach at Yuba College for a 9-year period.
Coach Stephens then served as the Head Men’s Varsity Coach at Lindhurst High School from 2014-17 helping lead Lindhurst to the playoffs in his final year, ending a 7-year playoff drought. Coach Stephens was honored with winning the coach of the year
Last year 2019-2020 Season haed Varsity Coach at Kennedy Highschool

"Bout that Life" AAU Basketball and Life talk Episode 10

Coach C.Collins and Coach MJ are back and are ready to talk more AAU basketball, life and everything in between. In this episode the coaches talk about the Clippers epic let down in the playoffs, Hardwood Palace(Rocklin CA) opening back up for there basketball tournaments, college basketball coming back and much more so be sure to listen and support. The coaches get to talk with a mother, Evelyn Hernandez, of 3 basketball playing girls two of which have won back to back state high school titles. Needless to say there wont be any punches pulled for this great episode.

originally from the South and West side of Chicago. I didn’t start playing competitive basketball until high school.  I attended high school in Florida as well as run track.  I received a D1 scholarship to play for Stetson University but decided to pursue track instead and attend Florida International where I met their father.

Nadia and Nia played AAU and went to Antelope High school & later transferred to West Campus.There they won 2x State Championships (Div. 4 & 3)
D1 scholarships to CSUB Later transferred to DVC(Diablo Valley College) to attend a different D1 school.
Nadia is attending Sac State in the Spring.  Nia is on a D1 scholarship at UNLV.  Naomi who is 12 @ 6’0 plays AAU for the Stockton Mustangs with coach Que

We have been gone for a while but we are back and have a new episode hot off the oven for you. Its been 3 weeks and a lot has happened in the AAU community, the NBA and society in general. Coach Chris and Coach MJ wanna touch on AAU open in certain parts of the country, the tragic death of Chadwick Boseman, the Jacob Blake shooting, parents and the journey through AAU.  Coach MJ speaks about his trip to Scotland Prep Academy and of course we have to talk about some of the hot topics of  the NBA.  With all this content you know its going to make for a great episode.

"Bout that Life" AAU Basketball and Life talk Episode 8

This episode Coach C. Collins and Coach MJ talk about Coach Collins and his organization, YBA, having a target on there back, NBA and the playoffs starting soon, also some current events at the Courtside Tournament this past weekend; mainly fighting between parents/players and coaches. We have the Director of the tournament Olajawan Jones who is a real laid back brother who has a passion for the hoop community and growing his brand one day at a time.

This episode Coach C. Collins and Coach MJ talk about Kids playing all over the place for to many AAU teams, the NBA bubble, Coaches teaching respect to the young men and women that they coach and influence, a funny story of a coach and ref playing for $1,000 dollars after a game and just events going on in the AAU world; with our brand of humor and keeping things accountable. We took a break but were back with are 7th episode and excited to reach this mile stone and looking at the future of basketball and everything else in between.

  Kai is not only a Division 1 point guard but a kid that is a true product of the YBA system and a kid that has been coached by Coach Chris and Brandon Cole, two very passionate coaches. 
- He started AAU in 4th grade with YBA and West Coast All stars being his 2 main programs
- His high school accolades at Placer High-school are Junior year honorable mention All-Metro, Senior year first team all Metro, First team ALL state, MVP for the optimus game. Voted to Play in the Sac Vs Bay game senior year
- Career high school stats 16.9pts, 5asst, 7reb, 3steal, scored 1000pts in 2 years, school records all time steals 198, all time free throws in season and in game 14/14 in game made 168/202, Had a quadruple double first round of playoffs senior year against Union Mine
- Current college San Diego City going to College Prep academy
