Guest: Marcus Kirkland(Founder/CEO of Strive Above Others)
Owner of "StriveAboveOthers" - a training company dedicated to the youth of Sacramento.
Prior to starting StriveAboveOthers, he played at Natomas High School before getting an athletic scholarship to Simpson University.
At Natomas High School, I was a 3-time Varsity player and received the MVP award for Sophomore year then All-League his Senior year
He knew he still wanted to play so he began training harder than ever. He worked on his ball handling, put up 100 jump shots a day and was training a minimum of twice a day. He then started to contact coaches and attend college open gyms.
After playing in a Simpson University open gym, he was offered an athletic scholarship to play basketball his Senior year, he made the All-League team
After college, he wanted to dedicate himself to helping kids and giving them opportunities that he didn’t have growing up and "StriveAboveOthers" was created.

In this episode, the coaches have the opportunity to sit down with trainer Rashid "Shine" Cann, creator of Shine Athletics training program.  Rashid has been working in the training game for over 12 years and has made a mark in the Sacramento community producing high level talent, working with the Sacramento kings, helping athletes finding high levels of success and the Sac Kings leadership community award in 2016.  Shine had a solid basketball career and was fortunate to play pro overseas for a while, his relationship to Jesuit legend and Stanford ball player Issa Silva and Folsom high school legend and Saint Mary's athlete Jordan Ford has helped him to become one of the hottest trainers in the area.

In this episode, the coaches have the opportunity to sit down with founder, coach and director of " Team Arsenal" KP Potts.  KP has been director of his AAU program since 2014 and has had multiple contracts with Adidas and Under Armor for his AAU brand. In this episode we learn about the man behind the name such as his basketball career, his outlook on the process of AAU basketball and the growth of his club in the home base of Fairfield California.  It was great to sit down and really peel the layers of what all that goes into being a successful program in addition KP trains at his own gym.

Questions about if the relationship of AAU coaches and high school coaches is discussed and we have a fun time sharing crazy stories of basketball events and journeys. In the NBA the Warriors and Suns match up is analyzed, who will be the king of the west? The coaches also bring up the empty threats made by Haslem toward the Jokic family along with the theater drama many of the NBA players start to display on a regular.  Street ball becoming a very cool wave in the basketball community is looked at and with KP speaking his truth there are definitely no punches pulled for the great discussions.

In this episode, the coaches have the opportunity to sit down with founder and CEO of "Lead Athletic Performance " Blair Orr.  Blair comes to the show with a great experience of building something from the ground up.  He recently opened his gym, all starting within the pandemic, and has grown his client base and network to become a recognized brand in the Sacramento/Roseville area.  The coaches ask about his colligate/professional journey and the origins of his training knowledge to the evolution of becoming an independent gym owner. Blair discuss in detail the pros and cons, social media and the importance of working with others in the basketball space.

In the show each trainer in the room discusses different philosophies and point of emphasis along with knowledge of the human body mechanics and structure. The vibe that should definitely be felt is that of cooperation and friendship in this space.  NBA news we talk about Curry and his true impact on the game with a great analysis and shout out to Jxmyhighroller who did a great YouTube segment on the effect curry has had on the game of basketball.  The kings fire head coach Luke Walton, Lebron and Stewart altercation and the hilarious case of a kings fan throwing up courtside is also brought up in the show for a few laughs. Blair comes across as someone who is in this game to help his athletes grow there game but the major part that is often overlooked is the self-care of the human body.  No punches are pulled as the coaches hold a microscope to the Sacramento basketball scene.

” Bout that Life ” AAU Basketball and Life talk Episode 31

Coach C. Collins and Coach MJ are ready to talk more AAU basketball, life and everything in between. In this episode, the coaches have the opportunity to sit down with basketball content creator and current player Jordan Lewis A.K.A Drifty Jay.  Jordan comes to the show as one of the new hot up and coming YouTube and TikTok creators amassing a following of almost 50 thousand on Instagram and well over 1 million followers on TikTok.  The coaches talk to Jordan about his start in the game of basketball and with him being only 19 all the room for growth and potential is very apparent as Jordan talks about his basketball history, attending a prep school and his plans moving forward with basketball.  Living in this new age where your content can now be monetized at the collegiate level is brought up and this episode comes after the interview with Marcelus Howard who is a mentor and friend  to Jordan helping the next generation to evolve the basketball online arena.

Coach C. Collins and Coach MJ are ready to talk more AAU basketball, life and everything in between. In this episode, the coaches get the chance to sit down with Derrick also known as "DBBoutabag" one of the hottest rappers out of Sacramento right now and former YBA player came on the show to talk his journey.  Coach Collins and DB have had a close relationship ever since he was a kid at Encina High school and in the episode you learn of how DB was not only a gifted athlete but was able to turn his focus of the game to a great, up and coming, rap career.  DB has seen a lot in his young life and plans to keep pushing to make a name for himself, also shout out to the championship YBA Beastmode team and Encina High School championship team.  DB has been one of those people who moves his own way and he will explain how the exposure to basketball helped to mold his life.

Condolences to the families of the now 10 people who lost their lives at the Travis Scott concert it is definitely a situation that will change the way concerts are done in this country forever.  The coaches and DB talk about the event and his perspective as a performer on what could have been done better if anything at all.  The coaches talk the NBA and all the moves going on with the Warriors and Lakers in addition watching Curry being dominate this year.  Shout out to Mr. Fab a good friend coach Collins as they went to high school together DB said very positive words from meeting him and his influence on the rap game.  Many more topics are discussed but the big take away from this show is the impact a coach and player have on each other if the relationship is legit.

In this episode, the coaches get the chance to sit down with Anthony Anderson also known as "Aye Tee" his performer name.  Anderson has been a coach for YBA since 2014 and has been active within the club throughout the evolution of the YBA brand.  He played the game at the college level and brings a lot of passion to his craft of music which coach Collins and MJ will talk more extensively about.  Aye Tee is a high energy coach who also has several podcast, does constant live shows and the journey from basketball player to Rap artist makes for a great listen especially if your young athletes have passions outside of basketball like music.

Condolences to the families of the people who lost their lives at the Travis Scott concert it is definitely a situation that will change the way concerts are done in this country forever. That is a topic discussed heavily along with the relationships built through coach and player.  In the NBA the group discuss the PJ Washington and Brittney Renner conclusion and what can be learned from it. The Warriors are balling and Curry looks like he has know plains to slow down, mean while the Lakers have no Lebron and Westbrook is still trying to find a role to be effective for this team.
