Coaches Rize Time: AAU Shoe Circuit Experience (UA Rise Session 1)

Coach C. Collins is back at it to help give his experience of coaching methods and tactics that can hopefully help you to grow in the game of basketball along with tips for your AAU brand.  Todays topic I want to tell coaches, families and players what my experience was at the UA Rise tournament in Indiana.  Most AAU basketball teams want to eventually make it to one of the shoe circuits that play some of the best high school talent in the nation and I want to give a step by step experience on what will happen if you make it.
My team went 4-1 and made some huge noise that weekend impressing a lot of college coaches but the experience and networking is well worth it. As always if you feel so inclined drop a like or comment and enjoy the episode.

Coach C. Collins is ready to talk more AAU basketball, life and everything in between. In this episode,   Coach Collins got to sit down with an old high school buddy Nick Lozito.  Nick is a sports editor for the San Francisco chronicle news paper and is a Oakland native born and raised. Coach Collins and Nick go way back and in the show you can hear from someone who has worked in the sports game for a long time. Nick has a passion for sports that began in High School as he was there to see the rise of Oakland Tech as a basketball power house during the Leon Powe & Demarshae Johnson era(199-2003).  Nick also worked at the Oakland Tribune in the same field and he has done several pieces on the sports world that give him great insight to the professional experience.

Some topics of interest in this episode were the assessments of how the era of basketball has changed also Nick reached out to Coach Collins for insight about how AAU basketball works and the pros and cons. Nick also discusses a recent article he had done on the decline of black participation in baseball and the reasons why. Often through out the show the comparison of aau programs in traditionally white sports as opposed to aau basketball, which is predominately black, is brought up as well. Of course we talk NBA news and the way covid-19 has affected the layout of the NBA season.  With everything being uncertain it seems athletes and organizations either adapt or fail.

Prior to starting StriveAboveOthers, he played at Natomas High School before getting an athletic scholarship to Simpson University.
At Natomas High School, I was a 3-time Varsity player and received the MVP award for Sophomore year then All-League his Senior year
He knew he still wanted to play so he began training harder than ever. He worked on his ball handling, put up 100 jump shots a day and was training a minimum of twice a day. He then started to contact coaches and attend college open gyms.
After playing in a Simpson University open gym, he was offered an athletic scholarship to play basketball his Senior year, he made the All-League team
After college, he wanted to dedicate himself to helping kids and giving them opportunities that he didn’t have growing up and "StriveAboveOthers" was created.

In this episode, the coaches have the opportunity to sit down with Webster Moreland former pro player and coach for Adidas gauntlet program International Elite based out of Portland, OR.  Coach MJ was not able to be here this episode but coach Collins and Web had a good one on one conversation about AAU basketball the highs and low's and the impact how the basketball community has evolved. Web is the younger bro of coach Collins and the episode has great opinions and stories of a basketball journey that was fought tooth and nail to find success.  Shout out to Matt Johnson a former Sac High alumni and pro athlete because him and web had some great battles as he is mentioned in the show.

The NBA is discussed as Web is a Lakers fan and we talk the up and down season there having along with the other story lines. We get into a deep dive of understanding what it takes to perform at the higher levels and how the Adidas gauntlet experience for the International Elite team. Getting kids there exposure and hoping to find success, loyalty and other topics are brought up.
