” Bout that Life” AAU Basketball and Life talk Episode 28

Coach C. Collins and Coach MJ are ready to talk more AAU basketball, life and everything in between. In this episode, the coaches get the chance to sit down with the Vice President of the Oakland Soldiers AAU  basketball club which has a contract to play in the E.Y.B.L(elite youth basketball league), sponsored by Nike, the highest and most competitive AAU league in the country.  The Oakland Soldiers have been around since 1991 and has risen to the top of prominence in Nor Cal by winning Peach Jam several times and being known for pumping out division 1 and NBA caliber talent.  VP Leath has stepped into the administrative roll, being former soldiers player, and has done a great job in his tenured there so far. Leath talks to the coaches about his basketball journey as a Sac State legend but first growing up playing basketball and traveling all around the country. 
Collins and Leath have know each other a while and they discuss there views on AAU basketball, training, living as directors and "Kings" of there domain but also just have great comments and fun talking about the images people might have of the Soldiers and YBA.  The coaches talk NBA news with Golden State still looking great, the Lakers trying to get things on track for themselves, Zion Williams coming back to play and many more story lines in the NBA.

Guest: Loren Leath (VP Oakland Soldiers)
• Sac State’s all-time leader in career points (1,489) in the school’s Division I era, single points in a season (526) and made 3-point goals 
• Leath was inducted into Sac State’s Men’s Basketball Hall of Fame and Coaches’ Circle in the fall of 2016. He stands alone in the program with the highest score in a single game (41). Not only did he break that record, Leath had nine made 3-point shots, to eclipse Jameel Pugh.
• Upon finishing my basketball playing career, I could not see myself stepping away from the game completely. I accepted a role with the Oakland Soldiers; a nonprofit organization to help expose youth to the essential educational and athletic disciplines necessary to become productive student-athletes.

”Bout that Life” AAU Basketball and Life talk Episode 27

Coach C. Collins and Coach MJ are ready to talk more AAU basketball, life and everything in between. In this episode, the coaches get the chance to sit down with a legend on the court Vernon "Schea" Cotton.  This man has all the knowledge and accolades to back up any sort of hype he received.   He released a documentary in 2016 entitled "Man Child", it has won various awards and Schea is currently on tour showing the movie in various places and also spreading the word of his cautionary tale of highs and lows.  This man is an LA legend and the coaches are honored to be able to sit down and ask about his journey.
Coach MJ being from LA he has plenty of memories of the LA superstar who was quoted by Kevin Garnett as being "Lebron before there was a Lebron".  In his documentary former Warriors Baron Davis and Stephen Jackson, as well as Paul Pierce and Elton Brand are among those appearing in the film.  Tyson Chandler also shares his memories of young Schea, as does NFL Hall of Famer Randy Moss, as written by NBC sports.

AAU basketball is talked about heavy and the entitlement that some players have with social media changing the perception of the work it takes to truly be great. The coaches talk about the different story lines of the NBA like the Warriors off to a hot start and the Lakers struggling with the "Westbrook" experiment. The discussions are hard hitting and very grounded this episode so you don't want to miss out.  Coaches being held accountable as leaders of young men and women is also brought up and a special shout out to Coach Deonard Wilson of Grant high school for making this episode happen and as always there are no punches pulled.

•  Cotton at the time has been compared to the fanfare of LeBron James' prep career, and some have referred to him as "LeBron before LeBron."
• Youngsters would wait for over a half-hour for his autograph.  In 2014, Cal-Hi Sports hailed him as "arguably the most ballyhooed youth player in [California] history.
• Sophomore at Mater Dei HS year, Cotton averaged 24 points and 10 rebounds, leading Mater Dei to a 36–1 record and a state championship, their third in 13 seasons. 
• He was voted All-Southern Section Division I Player of the Year, and was named to the All-Southern Section Division I Team for the second straight year.  Cotton also became the first and only sophomore to be named Cal-Hi Sports Division I State Player of the Year
•  Cotton played professionally for 10 years, and picked up several languages over a career that saw him play in seven countries and numerous U.S. leagues.[6] He landed with KK Partizan in Belgrade, Serbia, where he played 20 games for Vlade Divac's former team in 2002. He then joined the Shanghai Sharks, Yao Ming's former team in China. After playing abroad for two years, Cotton returned to Long Beach in 2003 to play for the ABA's Long Beach Jam—he was the first player signed by the new franchise.
• Domestically, he also played in the United States Basketball League and toured with the Harlem Globetrotters. His career also took him overseas to France, the Dominican Republic, Venezuela, and Mexico.

Coaches Rize Time: Special Guest Vance Walberg (Innovator of the Dribble Drive) Legendary Coach

Coach C. Collins is back at it to help give his experience of coaching methods and tactics that can hopefully help you to grow in the game of basketball along with tips for your AAU brand.  This episode a very special and legendary Guest Coach Vance Walberg sits down with coach C.Collins and they talk basketball, philosophies and overall passion for the game. Coach Walberg has had a 44 year career and his insight into the game of basketball is definitely something you don't want to miss.
Most remember Walberg as the wildly successful and innovative basketball coach at Clovis West from 1989-2002 who built a program like no other in the Central Valley with a unique style that caught the attention of prominent coaches everywhere. During his 13 year tenure at Clovis West they went 343-68 with nine league titles, 10 CIF Central Section Championships appearances (including six titles), three showings in the Southern State Championship Game, a birth in the state championship game and earning top 10 rankings in the state six times. Even now, coaching at the top basketball level in the world, it’s clearly evident his time at Clovis West was extremely special.

Coaches Rize Time: AAU basketball cost money!!!

There seems to be a misconception that AAU basketball should be cheap or free and that is simply unacceptable. Basketball has become a worldwide popular sport that many parents are all willing to invest in for the future of there child, so why should it be free for everyone? or worse coaches not getting compensated for there effort and time?

In this episode, the coaches have the opportunity to sit down with basketball content creator and former player Marcelas Howard.  Marcelas has known Coach Collins for 5 plus years and they've always kept in touch through his evolution as a ball player and social media personality.  Marcelas is best known for his YouTube work starting off with comedic NBA impersonates and has since branched off into celebrity basketball games, meeting NBA players doing 1v1 competitions with other YouTuber's, overall being a staple in the basketball community.

With the new NBA and college basketball season approaching there are plenty of things discussed during the show. First the creation of LLC advertising companies that universities wish to create in order to retain athletes as the NCAA is allowing them to now get paid off their brand. Lebron was voted by ESPN not the best player in the NBA currently and the backlash of a bold statement like that. PJ Washington is a cautionary tail for athletes and anyone with high status and Shout to Bobby Jackson and the Kings for winning the summer league, and is Jalen Green the real deal? The coaches also talk about the reclassify topic that has become a cornerstone in AAU basketball culture.

Coaches Rize Time: What is a High IQ Basketball Player

The term " High IQ Player" gets thrown out a lot but its never really discussed what does the term mean. Some players can take it that your insulting there athletic ability and others can take the term as in extremely high complement to the cognitive abilities of said player.

" Bout that Life" AAU Life and basketball talk Episode 24

Coach C. Collins and guest Co-Host Coach Tet are ready to talk more AAU basketball, life and everything in between. In this episode, the coaches have the opportunity to sit down with Montel Golatte(Coach Mo) of Control Chaos. Coach Mo and Coach Collins have been friends and hoopers together for almost 20 years along with coach Tet so this episode has a lot of love, brotherhood and history.  The coaches had a lot to talk about as its been almost a month since the last episode and coach MJ will be back for future episodes for sure. We discusses the July live period, Covid-19 and kids making that transition into high school AAU basketball.
NBA topics the Lakers have made a ton of moves off season.  Does this mean the older players of Lebrons generation see the end coming and want that last chance for a ring before there out the league?  Team USA won the Gold for men's and women's basketball, with a great performance from KD, did he cement a legacy of being a true closer? 
Also hot topics are discussed in the current state of youth basketball such as, officiating, loyalty and accountability. All the coaches use there experience and stories to discuss there thoughts on the subject but try to have fun along the way.
